Tulsa Honor Academy will prepare each scholar for the rigors of high school, college, and beyond. We operate with the belief that all scholars, regardless of background or income, can achieve at a high level. Through strong academics and a focus on character, our scholars will achieve excellence. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that 100% of our scholars go to and graduate from college.
Flores Middle School currently serves scholars in grades 6 and 7. Flores MS will eventually serve scholars in grades 5-8.
Mr. Birt is originally from Boston, Massachusetts and is the Social Studies Teacher a Flores Middle School. Mr. Birt is an alumni of the University of South Carolina where he majored in History and Political Science. He has 2 years of experience as a Playworks coach in the Boston Public School system where I taught SEL skills through recess games. I’m excited to become part of the THA Familia because I’ve been looking forward to sharing my passion for social studies with the Nerdy Knights!
Ms. Mueller is originally from Joplin, Missouri and is the 6th Grade Math Teacher at Flores Middle School. She is a graduate of the University of Tulsa and received her bachelor's in mathematics. She loves working with students to improve their understanding of mathematical concepts and is excited to be a part of the THA Familia because she firmly believes in the school's dedication to educating well-rounded scholars.
Mr. Seals is originally from Del Rio, TX, but he grew up in Europe, and is the 6th Grade Reading Teacher at Flores Middle School. He is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University and received Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Mr. Seals also is a working writer who loves to share his passion of reading with whomever will listen. He is excited to be a part of the THA Familia because he believes every child is indebted a quality education to ensure they make it to and through college then become an active member of the community.
Anita Cheng is originally from Cerritos, California. Ms. Cheng moved to Tulsa as a part of Teach For America's Greater Tulsa corps and will be joining Tulsa Honor Academy as a Math Teacher. She is a graduate of Chapman University and received her degree in Psychology with minors in Economics and Education. She is excited to be a part of the THA Familia because of her deep desire to see every scholar succeed and discover their passions.
Mrs. Jeffords is originally from Somerset, Kentucky and joins the Tulsa Honor Academy as a Teach For America corps member teaching 6th Grade English Language Arts. She is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where she studied Secondary English Education and received her degree in General Studies. She has worked with students in both reading and math during her time as an AmeriCorps team member where she served one year in elementary school and two years in high school. She is excited to be a part of the THA Familia because she wants to be a part of a team that is working toward equity in education and providing students with an excellent education. She is also excited for the opportunity to get to know and grow alongside her students.
Ashley Bullock is a native Tulsan, attending TPS, Jenks, and Bishop Kelley prior to earning a B.A. focused in education, history, and psychology from Northeastern State University. Ms. Bullock taught through NSU’s TURN program for 2 years before spending seven years in healthcare administration. She continues to live in Tulsa with her husband and three kids. This is her second year teaching at Tulsa Honor Academy.
With an intense passion for history, Ms. Bullock is excited to teach both U.S. and AP U.S. History this year, emphasizing how our shared histories influence our lives today and how scholars can shape the history of tomorrow.
Josh Cirbo Is originally from Thornton Colorado and is the Physical Education Teacher at THA High School. He is a graduate of Metro State University and received his degree in K-12 Physical Education. This is his first year at THA and will be his first year of teaching as well. He will also coach the basketball team for THA this year. He is excited to be a part of the THA Familia because of the culture and the commitment to success of the students and teachers.
Originally from New York state, Stephie Eddy is a second year teacher at THA. She received her B.A. in Political Science and Theatre Arts from Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY. While attending Stony Brook University, Ms. Eddy had the pleasure of being the president of a local theatre company, Pocket Theatre, and was an Undergraduate College Fellow for 3 years. She worked intensely with incoming first year college students and was a mentor for students making the difficult transition from high school to college life. She is now a 2020 Teach For America corps member and is very excited to be teaching ELA and Intro to Theatre this year!
Mr. Finkel is from the Midwestern region of the US and is the 11th grade ELA and AP Language Teacher. Mr. Finkel will also host Speech and Debate at THA. He is a graduate from Arizona State University and received his master's in English with a focus in curriculum and literature. This will be Mr. Finkel's second year at THA and his 7th year in teaching. He is excited about being a part of THA Familia because of the joy he gets from helping his scholars take on new challenges.
Originally from Calvillo Aguascalientes, México and is the Ballet Folklorico Teacher at Tulsa Honor Academy. She graduated from TCC and received AUA Certification in the medical field. She joined Ballet Folklorico Sol Azteca in 2010 and has been part of numerous competitions and participations including Wonders of México El Espectáculo. She is excited to be part of the THA Familia because she believes that her Hispanic Culture in Folklore should be passed down to new generations and not be left in the past. Hispanic generations should know the meaning of their roots, their history and expressing culture through dance is a great way to teach scholars.
Megan Hudson-Dixon, LMSW, is from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, but has loved Tulsa as long as she can remember. She is a graduate from St. Gregory's University, NSU, and OU with degrees in History and Social Work, and an advanced degree in Social Work. She has specialized in working with scholars of middle and high school age for the past 5 years, and is so excited to be a part of the THA Familia because of the amazing culture!
Ms. Jewett is originally from Pittsburg, KS and is one of the Physical Educators at Tulsa Honor Academy. She is a graduate of Pittsburg State University and received her Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, and is currently working towards her Master's Degree in Sport and Leisure Service Management. Ms. Jewett worked as a K-5 PE teacher in Osawatomie, KS for two years and also coached Cross Country, Track & Field and Basketball at the high school level. Ms. Jewett is also lifeguard certified and enjoys teaching children in aquatic activities. She is excited to be a teacher at THA because she feels like a part of the THA Familia already, and is looking forward to working with all of the students and families on achieving their health and wellness goals.
Ethan Jones is a native Tulsan who recently moved home after twelve years in Portland. He is the World History Teacher at THA. Ethan graduated from Austin College in 2001 with a B.A. in International Studies. He’s excited to join the THA Familia and get to work helping the Nerdy Knights learn to share his passion for history and our place in it.
Blake Kruithof was born in Tulsa, but moved to Perkins, Oklahoma in middle school. Perkins is a small town, just 10 minutes away from Stillwater, home of the Cowboys. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Philosophy and a certification in Secondary Education. Before coming to THA, he taught Geometry and Algebra 2 at Stillwater High School. Mr. Kruithof's taught 8th grade Algebra 1 and Honors Geometry at THA's middle school for 2 years. He is now teaching Geometry and Pre-Calculus at the high school.
Ms. Mata is originally from Venezuela. She is the Spanish teacher at Tulsa Honor Academy. She is a graduate of the University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University. She received her bachelor's degree in International Business and Spanish and her master's degree in International Studies. She focused her studies in international non-profit management and learned how to make an impact in underserved communities. She has worked in Education for 4 years and has created new opportunities for family engagement in Tulsa's Latinx community. She is excited to be a part of the THA Familia to be able to teach scholars Spanish, culture, and to help them grow a global mindset.
Ms. Mayorga is originally from Los Angeles and is the World History Teacher at Tulsa Honor Academy. She is a graduate of UCSD and received her degree in Political Science. Along with researching International and American politics she has also studied gender and race theory. She is excited to be a part of the THA Familia because she believes in the potential of each and everyone of our students.
Lauren Parker is originally from Sapulpa, Oklahoma and is an English Language Arts Teacher at THA. She received her Master’s in English Literature from the University of Central Oklahoma specializing in 20th and 21st Century Literature. She has been an English Instructor at Tulsa Community college since 2017. She is thrilled to join the THA Familia and share her love for the magic of words.
Bonnie Patocka was born and raised in the panhandle of Oklahoma on a wheat farm near Guymon. She began her career working in telecommunications for Rockwell International in Dallas, Texas. She transitioned to teaching and worked for TPS at Edison High School and Tulsa Community College. After her children were grown, she taught at private schools, homeschool co-ops, and private tutoring. She began teaching for Tulsa Honor Academy in the fall of 2018.
Ms. Patocka graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in 1988 with a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Mrs. Joi Robinson is originally from Los Angeles, California, but calls Coffeyville, Kansas home. She is a graduate of Howard University and received her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Speech Communications. She is currently a student in the University of Oklahoma's Master of Social Work program and has plans to become a Therapist. She has over 17 years of experience working with children, primarily "At-Risk" youth. She is so excited to be a part of the THA Familia because helping make pathways for youth to hope beyond their present is her life's work.
Kimberly Siftar graduated from Oklahoma State University with her degree in Psychology. She pursued a career in corporate and agency recruiting specializing in sales roles. She worked in Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York City. Ms. Siftar always had a passion for science and teaching. She completed a master's degree in Teaching from Texas Woman's University. Several years ago, Ms. Siftar and her family returned home to Oklahoma. She joined the High School STEM team at Tulsa Honor Academy in 2019 teaching Physics. She loved teaching Chemistry and Pre-AP Chemistry for the 2020-2021 school year and is excited to teach AP Chemistry, Chemistry and AP Psychology in 2021-2022.
Ms. Stanfield is originally from Augusta, Georgia and is the Physics Teacher. They are a graduate of Phillips Theological Seminary and Swarthmore College, and has a Master's of Divinity, and a Bachelor's of Arts in English Literature & Mathematics. They have experience working at a homeless youth shelter and at a college student center. They are excited to be a part of the THA Familia because education is one of their life-long passions.
Originally from London, England, Joseph Weissman is a Foreign Language teacher at Tulsa Honor Academy. He is a graduate of the University of Leeds and received his bachelor's in Spanish Language and Literature in 2009. He has taught in several schools across the United Kingdom, as well as working for the British Civil Service at the Department for Transport. Mr. Weissman now lives in Oklahoma with his wife and son. He is excited to be a part of the THA Familia as he wants to inspire students to appreciate the value of Spanish more and more.
Aaron Witten is a Tulsa area native and has lived in the Tulsa area for 25 years. He attended LeTourneau University his freshman year of college, then transferred to Southwestern Christian University for his sophomore year. He graduated from Southwestern with a degree in Health, Sports Management, and Physical Education, focused in Kinesiology. Aaron grew up playing soccer, and played at the collegiate level in both the NCAA and the NAIA. He began coaching his final year of college, as an assistant for a local high school. Aaron has coached multiple club teams over years and holds licenses/diplomas from both United Soccer Coaches and US Soccer. He is excited to be the Head Soccer Coach, as well as the Strength and Conditioning teacher.
Ashia Wortham is originally from Carson, California. She graduated in 2016 from The George Washington University with a bachelor's in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science. In 2020, she earned her M.ED. for Math Curriculum and Instruction from Texas University at Arlington. After graduation, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to serve with Teach For America, teaching third grade for two years. Ms. Wortham joined the Tulsa Honor Academy Familia in 2018 and has taught 5th grade Math and High School Engineering. She currently teaches Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus BC.
Miss Young is originally from The Woodlands, TX and is the Algebra II teacher at Tulsa Honor Academy. She graduated from Southern Methodist University and received her degrees in Economics and Corporate Communications & Public Affairs. She is a current Teach For America corps member and is proud to be part of the THA Familia because of all the wonderful people in it!
Mrs. Haker is originally from Monterrey, Mexico and is the Operations Coordinator at Flores Middle School. She graduated from Union High School and is currently attending Tulsa Community College seeking her associate's degree in Business Administration. She then plans to transfer to Northeastern State University to pursue her MBA with a minor in Information Technology. She loves spending time with her two little girls, which is where she discovered her passion for children's development and the importance of systems and organization. She is grateful to be part of the Tulsa Honor Academy Familia since December 2019 and looks forward to continue working for our scholars and their families.
Ms. Modaff is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is the Behavior Interventionist at the Flores Middle School and a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where she earned her bachelor’s in History. She is continuing her education in the field of history with the goal of becoming a teacher in that field. She has experience working with at-risk youth in a child care setting as well as spending a year working with adolescents with Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health. She has a philosophy of resilience and humor and looks forward to bringing that to THA. She is excited to join the THA Familia because of the standards that exist within the core values and vision of the school.
Hannah Bland is originally from Great Bend, Kansas and is an Assistant Principal at Tulsa Honor Academy. She is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and received her degree in English. She taught 8th Grade Science for 4 and a half years (2.5 at THA) before transitioning to her current role. She is excited and grateful to be a part of the THA Familia because of our commitment to our scholars and community.
Christina Naramore grew up in rural Virginia. She graduated from Emerson College in Boston, MA where see earned a B.S. in Political Communication. During this time, she found her passion for education while working with the nonprofit Jumpstart for Young Children as a corps member and AmeriCorps VISTA. In 2016, she entered the classroom as a Teach For America corps member in Eastern North Carolina where she taught middle school math. She later joined Teach For America staff in both part-time and full time roles. Most recently, she was a Manager, Teacher Leadership Development at Teach For America Greater Tulsa from 2019-2021. She is also an alumna of Teach For America's Rural School Leadership Academy. As a deep believer in community schools and school innovation, Christina is incredibly excited to join the THA Familia.
